Valencia is a large city of Spain situated at the central part of the coastline of the Mediterranean sea of the country. With its population of more than 809 thousand people it is one of the most populous both in the country of Spain and in the whole Europe. It is very popular for tourists and what makes it even more well-known is that the coast line of the city is very close to the Balearic Islands of Spain. It is very easy to travel to the islands right from the city of Valencia. It is one of the three most visited cities in the country - of which the two others are Barcelona and Madrid – and it is also equidistant from both of them (which is about 350 kilometers). What this city is also unique with is that there are two languages in the city – Valencia and Spanish.

The city was named Valentia by the Romans in about the 2nd century BC, when it was established, and the name can be translated from Latin as “strong”, “brave” or “heroic”.

If you want to discover the city, you should start with the old city. Until the middle of 19th century there was a medieval stone wall surrounding the city of Valencia to protect it from the outside. Some remains of that time you can still see in the Institute of Modern Arts, which is just one of many museums you can find in the city.

Here you can see countless evidences of the past that the city has gone through, the most especially those of the architecture. In average the temperature is about 30º C in summer and during the winters it can be about 15º C. Autumns and springs are probably the most appropriate and pleasant time for long walks and discovering the fascinating old town.
